In a previous post, I talked about Google hosted mail. We’re now committed and ready to pull the trigger on the first weekend in November. All the accounts are uploaded, notices are going out to members next week, internal support training is scheduled and the documentation is ready. Since we first set this up, Google added the ability to host web pages within the domain that are managed by the administrator, as well as the ability to allow mail subscribers to post their own pages. (We will not be enabling that feature.)
This is a top-notch system from the user point of view, but there are still important items needed to make it possible to administer it:
- An API so we can programmatically add/delete/modify users.
- A bulk delete facility to match the bulk add facility
- Self-service password support (i.e., I forgot my password)
In typical Google fashion, new capabilities appear without announcement.
